LeBron James is getting close to making his first appearance of the season, although he knows he still has some work to do before he feels completely ready to compete at his usual level. Speaking to reporters on Monday, November 17, the 40 year old basketball star joked that his
lungs currently feel like those of a newborn baby. He explained that his focus is on rebuilding his stamina and endurance so that his body can
function like that of a fully conditioned professional athlete once again. James, who will turn 41 next month, has not played so far this season because he has been recovering from several physical setbacks. The Los Angeles Lakers veteran has been dealing with lingering sciatica as well as the effects of a sprained knee ligament that occurred during last
season’s playoff series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He shared that shortly after that period, around mid June, he began experiencing
new pain in his hip and back which affected his training plans and forced changes in how he prepared for the upcoming season. James noted
that although it has been a difficult adjustment, he has chosen to view the situation positively and consider the extra time for recovery as a hidden advantage.

James has now returned to practice sessions with his teammates, including Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, and reports indicate that he is listed as questionable for Tuesday night’s game against the Utah Jazz. He told the media that his current priority is returning to a state where he fully feels like himself and that he will monitor his body’s response over the next several hours to determine whether he is ready for active game play.

As part of his gradual return, James spent time last week training with the South Bay Lakers, the organization’s G League affiliate. This assignment served as a small step to ease him back into competitive basketball before officially beginning his historic twenty third NBA season. Austin Reaves made lighthearted comments to reporters about the moment, finding humor in the idea of LeBron training in the G League while his son Bronny James continues to develop his role with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Despite the physical challenges that come with nearing his twenty third season, James maintains a determined outlook. He mentioned that he has
even lost his voice from one intense practice session because he was loudly calling out instructions and communicating with his teammates. He
plans to rest, drink tea and stay focused on recovery while enjoying being back on the court with the group he missed.
