Atlanta rap star Latto has officially cleared the air regarding the heavily scrutinized lyrics on her newly released album, Big Mama, explaining why a standout verse on the track “Gimme Dat” was not intended as a malicious diss toward Cardi B. Speaking out following the album’s late-May 2026 debut, the 27-year-old artist addressed the intense fan speculation that has dominated social media timelines over the past week.

The controversy stems from a highly specific line on “Gimme Dat,” where Latto raps: “Talkin’ ‘bout buyin’ big mama a bag like my na ain’t already bought it / Big bank over here, big facts.” Listeners immediately connected the bar to a September 2025 incident involving a leaked, secretly recorded phone conversation. In that audio, Cardi B was heard heatedly venting to Ice Spice’s manager, shouting that she was not “pu*** a** Latto.” After the recording went viral, Cardi issued a highly publicized statement on X, owning up to the hot-headed rant, offering a public apology, and promising to privately buy Latto a luxury designer bag to make amends.

Addressing the online chatter, Latto clarified that her lyrics on “Gimme Dat” were not a targeted attempt to ignite a fresh hip-hop feud, but rather a factual response to a situation that was played out entirely in the public eye. According to Latto, she used the verse to “clock” the narrative and set the record straight regarding her own financial independence and status.

Furthermore, Latto revealed a surprising wrinkle concerning the aftermath of the 2025 leak, confirming that she and the Bronx superstar have not actually spoken to one another since the audio surfaced. Despite the global chart success of their “ErrTime (Remix)” collaboration just days before the leak, Latto disclosed that Cardi B only offered an apology publicly on social media at the time, without ever reaching out behind closed doors to deliver a personal explanation.

While fans continue to dissect Big Mama, which Latto has heavily implied will be her final studio LP, the “Big Energy” rapper maintained that setting the boundary in her music was about self-respect rather than starting a war. Representatives for Cardi B have not yet issued a statement regarding Latto’s recent commentary or the revelation regarding their lack of communication.
