Rapper Kodak Black, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was released from the Orange County Jail on Thursday after being granted a $75,000 bond. The arrest stems from a felony charge of trafficking in MDMA following a monthslong investigation by the Orlando Police Department. The 28-year old artist turned himself in as part of a “coordinated surrender” related to an incident that occurred in November 2025, when officers responded to reports of gunfire near the Children’s Safety Village on Fairvilla Road.
During that initial investigation, officers encountered a group gathered around luxury SUVs, including a BMW and a Lamborghini. Upon searching the Lamborghini, investigators reported finding a pink bag on the passenger seat containing approximately 14 to 200 grams of MDMA, along with $37,000 in cash and documents bearing Kapri’s name. Detectives bolstered their case by using social media, noting that the bag and specific jewelry found in the car appeared to match items worn by the rapper in recent Instagram posts.
Central to the prosecution’s evidence is a prescription bottle found within the vehicle. Authorities allege that Kapri’s fingerprints were identified on a bottle of prescription cough syrup located in close proximity to the narcotics. However, Kapri’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, has vehemently challenged these claims. Cohen stated that his client’s prints were “not on any of the items” and characterized the trafficking charge as having a “weak legal basis,” suggesting the evidence does not directly link the rapper to the illegal substances.
Following his surrender, Kapri entered a written plea of not guilty and waived his right to appear in person for his formal arraignment. Despite the prosecution’s initial request to hold the rapper without bond due to his prior record, a judge set the financial requirement at $75,000. This legal battle follows a string of previous charges for the “Super Gremlin” rapper, including a 2023 cocaine charge that was eventually dismissed. Kapri remains free on bond while awaiting a trial date, though a conviction on the trafficking count could result in a significant prison sentence.
