In a landmark achievement that underscores the enduring power of her musical catalog, Rihanna has officially become the first female artist in history to surpass 200 million RIAA-certified single units. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed the milestone this week, noting that the Barbadian mogul’s cumulative total now sits at an unprecedented 200.5 million certified units in the United States.
The feat is particularly remarkable given that Rihanna, legally known as Robyn Rihanna Fenty, has not released a full-length studio album since 2016’s critically acclaimed ANTI. While peers have leaned on aggressive release schedules and world tours to bolster their numbers, Rihanna’s ascent to the 200 million mark was driven almost entirely by the sustained streaming performance of her existing discography. Classics such as “Umbrella,” “Diamonds,” and “We Found Love” continue to rack up astronomical numbers, proving the timeless appeal of her work across the digital landscape.
According to the RIAA’s updated all-time rankings, Rihanna now sits as the third highest-certified singles artist in history. She trails only Drake, who leads with 277.5 million units, and country superstar Morgan Wallen, who holds the second spot with 215 million. By crossing this threshold, she has widened the gap between herself and other female titans like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift in the specific category of digital single certifications.
The milestone was pushed over the finish line by a series of recent certifications in April 2026. Notably, her 2006 hit “Unfaithful” was updated to 4x Platinum status, and her debut-era single “If It’s Lovin’ That You Want” finally crossed the 1x Platinum threshold. These updates, timed near the 20 th anniversary of her sophomore album A Girl Like Me, served as the final catalyst for her record-breaking total.
Despite her dominance on the charts, Rihanna’s primary focus in recent years has remained on her business empire, including Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty. However, she has teased the long-awaited “R9” album for several years, recently telling reporters that her time away from music “needs to count” and reflect her evolution as an artist.
As the industry celebrates her latest achievement, the 200 million milestone serves as a definitive testament to Rihanna’s status as a “streaming-age” pioneer. Even in a state of semi-retirement from the recording booth, her influence remains a constant force in the global music economy, setting a new gold standard for success in the 21 st century.
