
The rapper will not appear in either the matinee or evening performances on Wednesday, April 1, following a sudden health issue the previous night. She reportedly became seriously unwell while performing and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
A spokesperson confirmed that Megan began feeling very ill during the show and was quickly transported for medical attention. Her current condition is still being assessed, and it remains unclear when she will return to the stage.
Representatives for the artist have not yet provided further updates regarding her recovery or timeline for resuming performances.
Despite her absence, the production continued with understudy Patrick Clanton stepping into the role. He later shared a message of support on social media, sending well wishes and encouragement for her recovery.
Megan made her Broadway debut in the production on March 24 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. She is performing the role of Zidler for a limited eight week run scheduled to continue through mid May. Her casting marked a milestone as she became the first female identifying performer to take on the role in any version of the show.
Speaking about the opportunity, Megan described joining the production as an honor and expressed excitement about exploring a new creative space. She noted that theater requires a different level of discipline and storytelling compared to music, but said she was eager to embrace the challenge and show fans another side of her artistry.
The musical is based on the 2001 film directed by Baz Luhrmann, which starred Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. The story follows a young American writer in Paris who falls in love with a performer at the famous cabaret.
Since opening in 2019, the Broadway production has featured a rotating cast of well known performers, including JoJo Levesque, Tituss Burgess, Boy George and Bob the Drag Queen.
