Usher draws backlash after defending Sean 'Diddy' Combs in a recent interview, insisting he has "nothing negative to say" despite the music mogul's criminal convictions.

The 47-year-old singer, who has long been associated with Combs, made the remarks during an appearance on Forbes' The Enterprise Zone, where he was asked to describe influential figures in his life using a single word.

When Combs' name was mentioned, Usher responded: "Legacy." He later acknowledged his stance might be viewed as controversial, but maintained that his personal experiences differed from public perception.

"I don't have anything negative to say about Sean Combs," he said, adding that he believes the entrepreneur has been "misrepresented" in the wider narrative.

Combs, now 56, was convicted on two counts related to transportation for prostitution following a high-profile trial in 2025. While he was cleared of more serious allegations, including racketeering and sex trafficking, he received a prison sentence of just over four years.

Court proceedings included testimony from multiple witnesses, as well as video evidence showing violent incidents involving his former partner, Cassie Ventura.

Usher's comments have sparked swift criticism online, with many fans arguing that praising Combs' legacy overlooks the severity of the case. Some described the remarks as "tone-deaf," while others said they were disrespectful to those who testified.

Despite the backlash, Usher emphasized that he chooses to recognize the impact Combs had on his early career, particularly as a mentor during his teenage years.

He also pointed to the broader influence Combs had within music and business, crediting him with helping shape cultural and entrepreneurial spaces. Still, critics argue that admiration for professional achievements should not come at the expense of accountability, particularly in light of the evidence presented during the trial.

Reports indicate Sean Combs remains incarcerated, with his projected release date subject to change following alleged rule violations while in custody. The controversy underscores an ongoing debate about separating artistic legacy from personal conduct in the entertainment industry.
