In a move that has signaled a reconciliation of one of Hollywood’s longest-running tensions, Academy Award winner Mo’Nique has published a vulnerable open letter to EGOT recipient Whoopi Goldberg. The letter, shared via Instagram and her official website, serves as a public olive branch and an emotional reflection on the complexities of sisterhood within the entertainment industry.

The rift between the two comedic titans dates back to a tense 2018 appearance on The View, where Goldberg challenged Mo’Nique’s “blackballing” narrative following her Oscar win for Precious. At the time, Goldberg suggested that Mo’Nique should have “played the game” to protect her career, a comment that led to years of back-and-forth public critiques regarding professional integrity and the “value” of Black women in Hollywood.

However, in the letter titled “To My Sister Whoopi,” Mo’Nique adopted a tone of profound grace and accountability. “For a long time, I allowed my hurt to speak louder than my love for the trail you blazed,” Mo’Nique wrote. She acknowledged that while they had fundamentally different philosophies on navigating the industry, she now recognizes Goldberg’s perspective as one born out of “survival and a desire to see a sister win.”

The Parkers star specifically cited a recent private conversation the two shared in early 2026 as the catalyst for the public statement. “After speaking with you, I realized that we were both fighting the same monster from different sides of the cage,” the letter continued. Mo’Nique also took a moment to apologize for any “harshness” in her past delivery, noting that her fight for fair pay and treatment was never intended to diminish Goldberg’s legendary contributions to cinema.

Industry peers have been quick to celebrate the reconciliation. Tyler Perry, who recently settled his own long-standing dispute with Mo’Nique, commented on the post with several heart emojis, while Sheryl Lee Ralph praised the moment as “the healing the culture needs.”

While Goldberg has yet to issue a formal public response, sources close to The View suggest that an on-air reunion may be in the works for later this spring. As Mo’Nique prepares for the 2026 release of her highly anticipated Netflix comedy special, The Resurrection, this open letter marks a definitive shift toward a “legacy of healing” rather than one of conflict.
