Twelve years after famously declaring himself “hip-hop’s first billionaire,” Dr. Dre (André Young) has officially crossed the ten-figure threshold. According to the Forbes 2026 World’s Billionaires list, the legendary producer, rapper, and entrepreneur is now a certified member of the “three-comma club” with an estimated net worth of $1 billion.

The 61-year-old music mogul ranks 3,332 nd globally, tying with fellow pop icon Rihanna and several other prominent business figures. This milestone makes Dre the second rapper in history to be officially recognized by Forbes as a billionaire, trailing only Jay-Z, whose net worth has grown to an estimated $2.8 billion, and one of only six musicians currently on the list.

Dre’s journey to the billionaire ranks has been a long-documented saga of massive wins and high-stakes legal hurdles. In 2014, following the $3 billion sale of Beats Electronics to Apple, Dre recorded a viral video alongside actor Tyrese Gibson claiming he had reached the milestone. However, Forbes clarified at the time that after capital gains taxes and a split of the proceeds with business partner Jimmy Iovine, Dre’s actual net worth fell just short. In the years following, a highly publicized and costly $100 million divorce settlement with ex-wife Nicole Young further delayed his official ascent.

The financial surge that finally pushed Dre over the line in 2026 is attributed to a combination of his long-standing assets and new, lucrative ventures. His Aftermath Entertainment label remains a powerhouse, housing a catalog that includes some of the most profitable artists in hip-hop history, such as Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. Additionally, his recent foray into the premium spirits market with Snoop Dogg, specifically the 2024 launch of their “Gin  Juice” ready-to-drink cocktail line, has proven to be a massive commercial success.

With his inclusion in the 2026 rankings, Dr. Dre joins an elite group of musical billionaires that includes Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Bruce Springsteen. For fans and industry analysts, the announcement serves as the definitive confirmation of a legacy built on the “unmatched cultural and commercial instincts” that have defined West Coast hip-hop for nearly four decades.
