In a move that has sparked intense public debate, Pastor T.D. McNutt has called for a public apology from his 16-year-old stepson following the pastor’s recent arrest on multiple counts of child abuse. During a televised address from his ministry, McNutt maintained his innocence and characterized his family as the “actual victims” of a coordinated smear campaign fueled by false allegations.
The controversy follows an investigation by local authorities that led to McNutt being taken into custody earlier this month. The charges allege a pattern of physical and emotional abuse within the household. However, during his Sunday service, the prominent religious leader claimed that the teenager had “lied on him” and was being manipulated by outside influences looking to dismantle the ministry.
According to McNutt, the incident that led to his arrest was a case of “firm biblical discipline” that was grossly misrepresented to child protective services. He asserted that the legal system is being used as a weapon against his household. “The truth will set us all free, but first, the lies must be addressed,” McNutt told his congregation. “My stepson knows the truth, and I am calling on him to do the right thing and apologize for the pain this has caused our family and this church.”
Legal experts and child advocates have expressed concern over the pastor’s decision to demand a public apology from a minor while the criminal case is still active. Critics argue that using a spiritual platform to pressure a witness or a victim could be viewed as a form of witness tampering or further emotional coercion. “Seeking a public retraction from a 16-year-old in the middle of a criminal proceeding is highly irregular and potentially damaging to the legal process,” said a local defense attorney.
Despite the legal pressure, McNutt’s supporters have rallied behind him, framing the situation as a spiritual battle. The pastor concluded his address by stating that the family is focused on “healing and reconciliation,” but insisted that such a path is only possible if the allegations are admitted to be false. As of Monday, the 16-year-old has not issued a statement, and the district attorney’s office has declined to comment on the pastor’s recent public remarks, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
