Sean “Diddy” Combs is now expected to be released from federal prison on May 8, 2028, if he serves his full sentence and receives standard credit for good behavior. The projection comes as updated records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons reflect his 50- month sentence, along with credit for the time he has already spent in custody.
The music mogul has been behind bars since his arrest in September 2024. His sentencing in October 2025 resulted in a federal conviction for transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. In addition to prison time, he received a fine and will be subject to several years of supervised release once he completes his term.
The 2028 release date includes the possibility of good-conduct reductions, which can shorten federal sentences by up to 54 days per year. His legal team has also reportedly pushed for him to be placed in a lower-security facility that would allow eligibility for certain rehabilitation programs. One in particular, the Residential Drug Abuse Program, could potentially shave additional time off his sentence if approved by the Bureau of Prisons. However, no program-related reductions are guaranteed at this stage.
While the projection provides clarity on a timeline, it remains subject to change based on several factors. If Diddy encounters disciplinary issues, fails to qualify for sentence- reduction programs, or if his custody classification changes, the date could shift. Conversely, if he fully participates in available programs and avoids infractions, he could earn further reductions and exit even sooner.
The conviction followed years of legal scrutiny involving civil lawsuits and allegations related to sexual misconduct. While he was acquitted of the most serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges , which could have carried a life sentence , his federal conviction still marked the fall from grace for a figure once celebrated as a powerful architect of the hip-hop industry.
Public reaction has been divided. Some supporters argue that Diddy has been excessively targeted due to his fame and business empire, while critics say the case proves the long-ignored abuses connected to his inner circle. Regardless of outside perception, the court’s decision has placed one of music’s most prominent names firmly behind bars for the foreseeable future.
