Respected journalist Deborah Roberts has officially said goodbye to ABC News’ longtime downtown headquarters on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, bringing an end to nearly 30 years of working at the network.

Roberts, who began working at ABC News in 1995 as the youngest member of the 20/20 team, posted the moment on social media, reminiscing about the significance of departing a building that was full of history, legacy, and personal achievements. “Friday finish. Almost 3 decades since I first walked into the ABC news headquarters as a new correspondent… we are officially saying goodbye to the building,” she captioned an Instagram post.

The move Is a sequel to ABC News relocating its operations downtown to Hudson Square, where The View relocated last fall. The new space is part of a larger effort by parent company Disney to consolidate and modernize its media infrastructure.

In her blog post, Roberts recalled her early days in her career at ABC, where she was welcomed by the legends of the profession like Barbara Walters, Peter Jennings, Hugh Downs, and more. “What a moment,” she wrote, of the excitement and nervousness of being part of such a distinguished team.

The video she posted Is of her turning off the lights in her office for the first time, whispering gently, “That’s it. End of an era. Moving along.”

Though nostalgic to depart, Roberts understood that change is a certainty. “I am comforted by routine and the familiar. But change is the only true certainty of life, right? So here we go… making new memories @abcnews,” she went on.

Roberts was also named co-anchor of 20/20 in 2023 alongside David Muir upon Amy Robach’s departure. Her journalism career has spanned decades, with history as a

correspondent for Good Morning America, guest co-host for The View, and special reports across the network.

The move out of the old building is not just a physical relocation—it’s a generation change for TV journalism. But Roberts remains in command of ABC’s future, still setting up shots and keeping the legacy she established alive.

With ABC News opening its next chapter in the city center, Roberts’ farewell serves as a testament to the deep roots and lasting legacy of a career built on dedication, ethics, and evolution.
