Rihanna has shared her relief and gratitude after A$AP Rocky was acquitted in his felony assault trial. Shortly after the jury delivered its verdict on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the 36-year-old Grammy-winning singer took to social media to express her emotions.

“The Glory belongs to God and God alone,” Rihanna wrote in all caps on her Instagram Stories. “THANKFUL, HUMBLED BY HIS MERCY!”

Rocky, also 36, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, had been accused of firing a semi-automatic handgun at A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli during a confrontation in November 2021. A conviction could have led to a prison sentence of up to 24 years.

The rapper and Rihanna, who confirmed their relationship in November 2020, share two young sons—RZA, 2½, and Riot, 18 months.

Following the verdict at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles, Rocky expressed his gratitude.

"Thank y'all for saving my life. Thank y'all for making the right decision,” he told the jury before embracing Rihanna and his family.

In a post-trial press conference, he continued, "First and foremost, I have to thank God. I also want to thank the jury for making the right decision. This entire experience has been overwhelming for the past four years, but I’m beyond grateful to be standing here today as a free man."

After leaving the courtroom, Rocky shared a brief yet pointed message on X (formerly Twitter), warning others: “DON’T BE DUMB.”

Rihanna had previously attended several of Rocky’s court dates during the civil trial, often bringing their two children—something prosecutors criticized.

"I want to ensure that no matter how famous his partner is or how adorable his kids are, he is treated like any other defendant,” District Attorney John Lewin argued in court on Feb. 14.

Following a break, the judge addressed these comments, instructing that there should be no further mention of Rihanna or their children in court proceedings.

Throughout the case, Rocky’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, maintained his client’s innocence, dismissing the allegations and describing the firearm in question as a “prop gun.”

"For Relli, this was never about justice—it was about seeking financial gain from a fabricated story," Tacopina stated.

Despite being offered a plea deal, Rocky chose to take his case to trial, rejecting a guilty plea to one of two felony charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
