The woman who accused Jay-Z and Sean "Diddy" Combs of sexually assaulting her over two decades ago has admitted to errors in her statements. Speaking under the pseudonym Jane Doe, the accuser clarified inconsistencies during an interview with NBC News but maintained that the assault took place, asserting that her memory of key details remains intact.
"I have made some mistakes," she said. "Not all the faces are clear in my memory." One of the discrepancies revolves around her claim that her father drove over five hours to pick her up following the alleged incident. However, her father denies this. "I feel like I would remember that, and I don’t," he told NBC. Jane Doe’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, attributed this to the personal struggles her father was experiencing at the time, arguing that his memory may not be reliable.
The alleged assault reportedly occurred at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000 when Jane Doe was 13. She stated that she encountered musician Benji Madden during the event, but NBC verified that neither Benji nor his brother Joel attended the VMAs that year. Additional confusion surrounds the party's location, which remains unclear, casting further doubt on her timeline of events.
In response, Jay-Z issued a strong denial, calling the lawsuit baseless. "This incident didn’t happen," he stated. "True justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory." His attorney, Alex Spiro, echoed these sentiments, criticizing the accuser’s legal team for pursuing the case without thorough investigation. "It is stunning that a lawyer would file such a serious complaint without proper vetting," said Spiro, calling for the court to dismiss the claims.
Buzbee defended his client, describing her as being under "extreme distress" due to the case. He revealed that she has suffered seizures as a result of the stress and has agreed to take a polygraph test to support her claims. “Our client remains fiercely adamant that what she has stated is true, to the best of her memory," Buzbee emphasized.
This case is unfolding against the backdrop of a broader legal battle involving Sean Combs, who faces multiple allegations of violent sexual assault. Combs' legal team has dismissed these lawsuits as a "money grab," claiming many allegations have already been debunked.
While the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on verifying the details of Jane Doe’s claims and addressing the apparent inconsistencies. For now, both sides remain steadfast in their positions, promising a protracted and contentious courtroom battle.
