Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx recently took to the stage in Atlanta for his one-man show "One More Chance: An Evening With Jamie Foxx," marking a poignant comeback after a life-threatening medical emergency in April 2023. The 56-year-old star described the experience as filled with "pure joy" in an emotional Instagram post on October 14, 2024.
His return to live performance comes over 18 months after he suffered an undisclosed "medical complication" that left him hospitalized and unable to walk for a period. The severity of his condition became apparent when he revealed at a December 2023 event that he "couldn't do that six months ago," referring to his ability to stand and move independently.
The actor's journey back to health has been shrouded in mystery, with Foxx sharing limited details about his ordeal. In July 2024, he recounted getting a "bad headache" while filming in Atlanta, which led to a 20-day period he doesn't remember. "I saw the tunnel—I didn't see the light," Foxx admitted, emphasizing how close he came to losing his life.
Foxx credits his daughter Corinne and sister Deidra for their quick action in getting him medical attention. In an August 2024 birthday post to Deidra, he wrote, "Without you I would not be here... Had you not made the decisions that you made I would've lost my life."
The Atlanta performances on October 3rd and 5th, 2024, were Foxx's first time on stage in 18 years. He described the show not as stand-up comedy but as "an artistic explanation of something that went terribly wrong." The actor expressed gratitude to Atlanta and Piedmont Hospital, acknowledging their role in his recovery and return to performing.
Industry figures have praised Foxx's comeback. Music producer Breyon Prescott called the Atlanta show "one of the most amazing things I have witnessed in my 30 plus years in this business," while rapper Busta Rhymes congratulated Foxx, saying, "Who God Bless, No man Curse!!"
