Cardi B and Offset are splitting up once more. On Wednesday, July 31, Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset, 32, after six years of marriage, as confirmed by a representative for the "Bodak Yellow" rapper. "It’s not due to cheating rumors but has been a long time coming," the rep told PEOPLE. The news was first reported by the New York Post's Page Six.
Cardi B, 31, is reportedly seeking primary custody of their two children, daughter Kulture Kiari, 6, and son Wave Set, 2½. The details of the divorce filing were not publicly available at the time of the announcement.
On Thursday, August 1, Cardi B revealed on Instagram that she is pregnant with her third child, just hours after the divorce news broke. "With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all, renewed my power!" she wrote in her post, addressing her unborn baby.
The divorce news comes seven months after Cardi B candidly discussed her relationship status on Instagram Live, saying, “I’ve been single for a minute now,” as captured in a recording shared on X (formerly Twitter). She expressed a desire to start the new year "fresh" and "open," adding, "I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah… I’m excited."
Despite this, Cardi B and Offset have spent time together since then. They celebrated New Year's Eve together, Offset directed Cardi's March music video for "Like What (Freestyle)," and they attended a Knicks game in May. That same month, Cardi told Rolling Stone that the couple was "all right now," emphasizing their close friendship. "Because we do love each other," she said, "It’s not even about love. We’re best friends."
In mid-December, Cardi also went live on Instagram, tearfully discussing their relationship. "This motherf---er really likes to play games with me at my most vulnerable time," she said, as captured by The Neighborhood Talk. "When I'm not the most confident, he likes to play games with me because he knows that I'm not an easy girl."
Cardi B and Offset's relationship has been marked by ups and downs since they married in September 2017, often due to allegations of Offset's infidelity. They announced a split in 2018 but reconciled, and Cardi filed for divorce in September 2020, only to call it off later. In a 2020 interview with ELLE, Cardi acknowledged the drama in their relationship but emphasized their deep connection and friendship. "It’s always us against the world," she said.
In June 2023, the couple faced more challenges when Offset accused Cardi B of cheating in a now-deleted Instagram Story. Cardi responded with a Twitter Space conversation, singing Keyshia Cole's "I Should Have Cheated" and dismissing Offset's accusations. Offset later admitted he had lied.
