Antonio Brown has no money. According to a Times Union article, the contentious and volatile former NFL receiver filed for federal bankruptcy in Florida on Monday, owing eight creditors close to $3 million. Three court judgments totaling at least six figures are unpaid by the previous owner of the Albany Empire Arena Football League team.
According to the court document obtained by the Times Union, that includes the $1.2 million granted to truck driver Anton Tumanov, whom Brown is accused of assaulting, after the receiver failed to show up in court for the case in 2022. The 35-year-old, a former player for the Patriots, Steelers, Raiders, and Buccaneers, also owes a local plumber $296 and hundreds of thousands of dollars in credit card debt.
In the petition, he states that his assets are $50,000 or less. According to Spotrac, Brown earned $80.7 million throughout his 12-year NFL career.
He filed under Chapter 11, which gives him the protection from creditors he needs to rebuild his finances. On Tuesday, he made hints about his bankruptcy on his X account by tweeting,I'm broke," accompanied by a Cash App QR Code. On Monday, he shared a meme from The Office, titled
Greatest bankruptcy announcement of all time. Avanti Solutions, which filed a lawsuit against Brown for allegedly failing to pay them for work
completed for his performance at the Rolling Loud hip-hop concert in March 2023, was one of his other debtors, demanding $28,589 from him. The perception of Brown financial difficulties is not new. He was taken into custody in October on suspicion of not paying his child support.
He held the Albany Empire for a period of three months. Players and coaches threatened to sue Brown after he withdrew their last game checks from their bank accounts, and the club was expelled from the league for not paying running charges.A four-time All-Pro, the 2010 sixth-round choice of the Steelers has 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns in his NFL career.
