Jennifer Lopez remains focused on her work despite personal challenges. On Wednesday, May 22, the actress and producer, 54, was in Mexico City promoting her new Netflix film Atlas when a reporter diverted the conversation to her personal life.
"Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real? These rumors?" asked the reporter, surprising the press room. "What is the truth? Para le press le Mexicana [for the Mexican press], what is the truth of the situation?"
Simu Liu, Lopez's co-star, quickly stepped in. "Okay, we're not doing that," Liu stated firmly. "Thank you so much, guys, we really appreciate
it. Thank you."Lopez, addressing the reporter directly, said, "You know better than that." "Come on, don't come in with that energy, please," Liu added. "If I could just end on one thing," he continued, "Jen is a producer on this movie, and the reason why I am here and why Sterling [K. Brown] was in this beautiful movie is because Jen cares. And Jen cares about things like representation and diversity, and she's a boss."
Closing the press conference, Lopez spoke in Spanish, "Thank you. No one asked me anything in Spanish but okay." She blew a kiss and smiled,
eliciting laughter from the attendees.
Lopez has been actively promoting the sci-fi film amid reports of marital difficulties with Ben Affleck. According to a source connected
to Lopez, their marriage is "not in the best place at the moment," and the couple has been living apart recently. Affleck was notably absent
from both the Los Angeles and Mexico City premieres of Atlas, instead being seen dining at a popular Italian restaurant in Santa Monica.
Despite this, both Lopez and Affleck have been spotted wearing their wedding rings this week.
The couple's history dates back to 2001 when they met on the set of Gigli and got engaged. They split in 2004 but rekindled their romance
nearly two decades later, marrying in a small Vegas wedding in 2022.
