Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Apollo Nida’s wife has filed for divorce after less than three years of marriage. His wife, Sherien Copes has filed for divorce, accusing him of multiple instances of adultery and emotional and physical abuse. She claims that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” and is not seeking alimony.
Sherien Copes and Nida have allegedly been separated since November 2023, just over a year after they tied the knot in October 2022. Sherien accuses Apollo of refusing to seek professional help for his mental health issues, hence leading to abusive behavior towards her. This behavior in turn led to “severe” emotional distress to their daughter.
In her explanation, Copes alleged, “Respondent has committed adultery multiple times throughout our relationship. Respondent refused to seek professional help with his mental health issues and instead he emotionally and physically abused me and brought great emotional abuse to his step daughter.”
“The Respondent and I can no longer live together and there is no hope that we will get back together,” she stated as the grounds for divorce, checking off the boxes indicating that she allegedly endured “cruel treatment” at the hands of Nida as well as “adultery” and “desertion.”
Copes went ahead to request for either a temporary or permanent restraining order, citing that Nida’s abusive behavior might continue. “There is a history of physical violence by the Respondent toward me, and I am afraid that the Respondent will engage in further acts of violence or harassment toward me unless the Court enters a temporary and permanent restraining order,” she claimed.
In March 2024, Apollo was arrested and charged with family violence battery after he allegedly had a physical altercation with Sherien. The pair has a confrontation over Nida’s infidelity and during the disagreement, Apollo allegedly pulled Sherien by her hair and pushed her against a refrigerator. Apollo Nida was then released on a $3,000 bond following the incident.
Apollo’s ex- wife, Phaedra Parks previously accused him of similar behavior during their marriage. Apollo has faced legal troubles over the past few years with him facing imprisonment for fraud.
