13-year- old Na’Ziyah Harris went missing on January 9 th , 2024 and was found dead days later. Jarvis Butts, 42, will stand trial for the disappearance and murder of Harris. According to reports, Butts was in a relationship with Na’Ziyah’s aunt and they have 5 children together. Butts is accused of grooming and harming Na’Ziyah as well as infecting his 4 month old with Chlamydia.
According to prosecutors and text message leaked online, Na’Ziyah and Butts would communicate and meet after school. Investigators also discovered concerning internet searches on Butts’ devices and sexual messages with the 13 year old. It is also suspected that Na’Ziyah was pregnant before she was killed. Witnesses testified about inappropriate behavior and past incidents involving Na’Ziyah and Butts.
Social media users are calling for the arrest of Na’Ziyah’s aunt and grandmother, accusing them of neglect. Na’Ziyah Harris was being raised by her grandmother and aunt due to her mother’s drug addiction. According to Shannon Harris, Na’Ziyah’s aunt, she did not suspect anything beyond a normal uncle – niece bond between Na’Ziyah and Butts.
“Reading up on this Na’Ziyah case and it breaks my heart. Both her aunt and her grandmother failed her. They practically handed that little girl to that molesting demon on a silver platter. I know that vengeance is yours, God, but people like that don’t deserve to breathe, “ one user wrote. Another user wrote, “Na’Ziyah’s grandmother failed her the most. Grandmothers are supposed to protect you from all harm, this lady didn’t give a flying fuck about her granddaughter.”
Other users noted a pattern in Na’Ziyah’s family, claiming she didn’t have a chance, writing, “Crazy because her grandmother had her first child at 11 – she had 7 children all together. 1 of them being Na’Ziyah’s mom. Na’Ziyah’s mom had her at 13 years old – product of her mom being with a married man. It seems like she didn’t have a chance to be honest.”
