Media mogul Oprah Winfrey recently took a break from her busy schedule to focus on her health. After battling a stomach virus, Winfrey ended up in the emergency room due to dehydration. Thankfully, she's on the mendand using her experience to remind everyone of the importance of self-care.
A statement released by Winfrey's representative confirmed she was "recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor." The statement offered reassurance, adding, "She is resting and feeling better every day."
In a video call with her close friend and fellow media personality Gayle King, Winfrey elaborated on her experience. The video, posted to King's Instagram page, showed Winfrey recovering at home. She confided in King, "I couldn't keep enough water down to get hydrated," explaining why she sought medical attention.
King, ever the observant friend, noted Winfrey's "weakish" appearance in the video. Winfrey acknowledged she wasn't quite back to her usual self, but offered a positive update, saying, "I'm on my way."
Winfrey's illness also impacted her schedule. She unfortunately missed a planned appearance on "CBS Mornings," where she was due to reveal her latest book club pick alongside King and the book's author. For those eager to know, Winfrey's literary selection is the New York Times bestseller "Familiaris" by David Wroblewski.
Beyond the immediate health concern, Winfrey's experience serves as a reminder to prioritize self-care. Even the most accomplished and busy individuals need to take time to recover when their bodies are struggling. Winfrey's transparency highlights the importance of listening to your body and seeking medical attention when necessary.
The episode also sheds light on the contagious nature of stomach viruses. Winfrey revealed that multiple people in her household also caught the bug, emphasizing the importance of proper hygiene, especially handwashing, to prevent the spread of illness.
