There is now more information available about Mandasa's demise. The cause of death of the 47-year-old former American Idol contestant, whose real name was Mandasa Lynn Hundley, has been established by authorities. She was discovered dead in her home on April 18. Mandisa passed away from complications related to her class III obesity, per an autopsy that People was able to obtain.
As per the Cleveland Clinic, class III obesity is defined as a complicated chronic illness that affects individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher who are facing health conditions related to obesity. Additionally, the report stated that she was last known alive approximately three weeks prior to being discovered by friends on April 18. Her death was listed as occurring naturally.
The coroner has been contacted by E! News for additional information, but they have not responded. In a statement to E! News on April 19, Mandisa's representative confirmed her death, saying,We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased.
The Christian singer first gained notoriety in 2006 when she participated in the fifth season of American Idol alongside Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry, and Katharine McPhee, who went on to win the competition. The individual who placed ninth was Mandisa.
Following the performance, Mandisa's first studio album, True Beauty, was released in 2007. She later won a Grammy for her 2013 album Overcomer, which was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
