Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Summer tour kicked off with a bang, featuring a surprise appearance from Cardi B! The "Like What" rapper, 31, stunned fans mid-way through Megan’s sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday night, where PEOPLE was in
attendance. The dynamic duo electrified the stage with their high-energy raps and danceable hits, delivering a performance to remember.
Fan footage posted online shows Cardi arriving onstage to a roaring crowd, joining Megan, 29, for their 2023 collaboration “Bongos” and their 2020 chart-topping hit “WAP.” The rap superstars and good friends shared an unforgettable moment of sisterhood, dancing and performing with fiery energy.
Despite sound delays that briefly disrupted Cardi’s rhythm, she powered through like a pro. Megan checked in with opening act GloRilla and the audience to ensure Cardi could be heard clearly. The excitement continued as Cardi launched into her popular verse from GloRilla’s “Tomorrow 2,” bringing GloRilla back on stage for a triumphant trio moment. Megan and GloRilla then performed their new track “Wanna Be,” much to the fans' delight, setting the stage for some exciting news.
“Aye, y’all, we got a special motherf---ing announcement. I need y’all to stay tuned,” said GloRilla, according to a fan video. “Make sure y’all tune in tonight 'cause I ain’t telling you right now.”
A surprised Megan responded, “Now how you gonna tease that then try to walk away?” After some playful banter, Megan urged, “I think you should just tell them,” prompting GloRilla to ask the crowd, “Y’all wanna hear ‘Wanna Be’ with motherf---ing Cardi B?” Cheers erupted as Megan confirmed that a remix of “Wanna Be” featuring Cardi B is “about to drop, y’all, be ready.” A release date has not yet been announced.
Megan launched her Hot Girl Summer tour on May 14 in Minneapolis. Following her stellar performance at The Garden, the first-time headliner is set for more shows in cities like Philadelphia, Boston, Memphis, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, and Los Angeles over the coming weeks. The tour concludes on July 27 at the Broccoli City Festival in Washington D.C., where Megan will perform alongside acts like Gunna, PartyNextDoor, Lil Yachty, Victoria Monét, Kaytranada, and many more.
Meanwhile, Cardi B is gearing up for the release of her long-awaited sophomore album. Fans eagerly await a release date after years of anticipation
In her new Rolling Stone cover story, Cardi opened up about her forthcoming LP, revealing her reluctance to get too personal. "I really want to talk about the life changes that I’ve been dealing with the past six, seven years," she said. "But then it’s just like, I feel like people don’t deserve to know because people use my painagainst me.”
Despite a since-deleted post on X declaring “NO album this year” following an online spat, Atlantic Records confirmed that a new album from the Grammy winner is expected in 2024. With another collaboration with GloRilla—who released her "Ehhthang Ehhthang" album on April 5—on the way, fans have much to look forward to.
