Federal investigators are advancing their case against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, with plans to bring accusers before a federal grand jury, according to sources familiar with the probe. This move indicates that the U.S. Justice Department is inching closer to potentially seeking an indictment against Combs.
Investigators have notified potential witnesses, including those who have filed civil lawsuits against Combs, about testifying in front of a grand jury in New York City. This significant escalation comes as Combs faces a wave of legal challenges, including eight civil lawsuits since November, seven of which directly accuse him of sexual assault. One lawsuit, filed by ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, has been settled. Another accuses his son Christian Combs of sexual assault, with Sean Combs allegedly aiding and abetting.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has declined to comment on the existence of a grand jury but confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
Sources caution that witnesses have not yet been prepped for testimony, as HSI continues gathering evidence and questioning potential sources.
In March, CNN reported that Combs’ homes in Los Angeles and Miami were searched as part of a federal investigation by a Department of Homeland Security team focusing on human trafficking and sex trafficking crimes. The investigation has since broadened to include allegations of money laundering and illegal drugs.
Most plaintiffs in the civil suits have been interviewed by federal investigators, who are being meticulous to ensure any potential indictment is “bulletproof.” This thoroughness extends to questioning corroborating witnesses and examining video evidence seized
from Combs’ residences.
Combs has vehemently denied the allegations, dismissing them as attempts at a “quick payday.” Despite his blanket denial in December 2023, he
has not responded to all specific accusations, including claims of drugging and recording sexual encounters without consent.
As federal investigators delve deeper, the scope of their inquiry highlights the gravity of the charges against Combs, signaling a potentially groundbreaking case in the world of music and entertainment.
