Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini , famously known as Doja Cat was born to Sarafina actor Dumisani Dlamini and Elizabeth Sawyer. The two had a relationship in 1992 when Dlamini was still an actor in Sarafina. Sawyer is a painter and clothing designer who filled her daughter’s life with her art. Doja Cat also claims that her mother enrolled her in several performing arts schools.

Doja Cat grew up in the United States while her father lives in South Africa, therefore they have not had a personal relationship. During a rolling stone 2021 interview, Doja Cat said, “I felt confused a little bit. It’s strange to see everybody else with their dad and you really didn’t have one.” She also stated how she would always think her dad will come, assuming that he is just busy working in Africa, but he never showed up.

Although the two have had a strained relationship, Dlamini has shown support for his daughter on social media. In a December 2021 post, he shared a photo of the Paint the Town Red singer on Instagram and captioned it, “ AFRICAN PRINCESS THANKS SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING GOD BLESS YOU MORE.

Doja Cat put her father on blast on her Instagram. She wrote, “ Dad lemme know when (or) if you need to re-up your make-up cabinet (cause) you (are) a bitch.” After sometime, she updated it and said that she would turn him into her next project and that he will have to listen to it for the rest of his “God forsaken” life. She also made afew remarks on her father’s post on Instagram. “Fuck you.” “Kiss the ring bitch,” she wrote.

“You are messing with a wro ng one Zulus don’t play. .. Your ancestors will humble you,” a social media user warned Doja. “Go give the deadbeat a kiss on the lips for me,” Doja fired back. Aroundmidnight of May 28 th , Doja Cat changed her caption to, “Just kidding. Love you. I was mad.”
