Saundra Glenn, a longtime fan of Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin, recently had an unforgettable experience that deepened her admiration for the rock star. This special moment occurred as she was en route to Radio 1’s Big Weekend music festival.
In a BBC interview, Glenn, 64, recounted her struggle with osteoarthritis and a troublesome right hip, which forced her to take a break during her walk to the festival’s accessibility box office. While resting against a fence, a black Mercedes approached her. To her astonishment, a woman inside the vehicle offered her a ride.
“The door opens and I said, ‘Oh, that’s Chris Martin, I can’t get in with him’ and they said ‘Yes, you can’,” Glenn shared with the BBC.
Initially considering heading back home to watch the concert on television, Glenn, a Luton resident, decided to press on. “I love Coldplay and never thought I’d get another chance to see them in my hometown,” she explained. Her encounter with Martin turned humorous when she told him, “I’m 64, Chris, I don’t do festivals. I’ve come just to see you and now I’ve seen you, I can go home.” Her candidness elicited a laugh from the musician.
Martin’s kindness didn’t end with the ride to the festival. Upon arriving at the artist area, he ensured her continued comfort. “He didn’t just leave me there,” Glenn recounted. “He said, ‘Get the golf buggy and make sure Saundra reaches her destination.’” This thoughtful gesture highlighted Martin's awareness and consideration for those with disabilities, reinforcing his reputation as a genuinely kind individual.
Glenn stayed for the entire show, later describing it as the “coolest festival” she had ever attended. This unexpected and generous encounter with her idol not only allowed her to enjoy Coldplay’s performance but also left her with a cherished memory of Chris Martin's exceptional kindness.
