Lizzo was left visibly stunned after being referenced in a recent episode of “South Park” that satirized the rising trend of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro. The episode, titled “South Park: The End of Obesity,” sparked a live reaction from the singer, which she shared on Instagram and TikTok.
In the episode, characters Sharon and Sheila discuss the “amazing” new drugs Sharon has been using to manage her weight. Sharon reveals that her insurance only covers weight-loss drugs for diabetics, but there is a new, more affordable option for non-diabetics. The twist comes when Sharon reveals the new drug's name: Lizzo.
Lizzo, watching the scene, was shocked and covered her mouth as Sharon explained how she manages her cravings with a drug named after the singer. The show then transitions into a fake commercial for the drug “Lizzo,” which promises to make users feel good about their weight at a fraction of the cost of Ozempic.
“In case studies, 70% of patients on Lizzo no longer cared how much they weighed,” the commercial’s narrator says. “Lizzo helps you eat everything you want and keep physical activity to a minimum… Ask about the power of not giving a f**k, with Lizzo,” it adds, along with a list of side effects. However, Lizzo's career has not been without controversy. In August, three former dancers filed a lawsuit claiming they were subjected to a hostile work environment and harassment while part of Lizzo's dance team. One plaintiff alleged that she had been
questioned about her weight gain.
Lizzo responded to the allegations, stating, “I am not the villain that people in the media have portrayed me to be these last few days.” She emphasized her dedication to her art and her fans, writing, “As an artist, I have always been very passionate about what I do.
I take my music and my performances seriously because at the end of the day, I only want to put out the best art that represents me and my fans.”
Lizzo has been a prominent advocate for body positivity, often speaking out against the body shaming she faces on social media. Her reaction to the “South Park” episode underscores her influence in promoting self-love and confidence.
