In a heartbreaking turn of events, beloved actor Johnny Wactor, best known for his role as Brando Corbin on the iconic soap opera "General Hospital," was tragically killed in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday morning. The shocking incident occurred as Wactor attempted to intervene in a theft, according to statements from his agent.
The 38-year-old actor, celebrated for his compelling performances and dedication to his craft, met a tragic end in the early hours of Saturday. As reported by KABC, Wactor was walking with a coworker after finishing his shift at a downtown rooftop bar when he noticed suspicious activity near his car. Initially believing his car was being towed, Wactor approached the scene, only to be confronted by a suspect who opened fire without warning.
In a heartfelt statement, Wactor's agent, David Shaul, paid tribute to the actor's exceptional character and work ethic. "Johnny was not just a talented actor committed to his craft but a real moral example to everyone who knew him," Shaul said. "He represented hard work and tenacity, always striving to be the best he could be. Our time with Johnny was a privilege we would wish on everyone. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. The devastating news was confirmed by Wactor's mother, Scarlett Wactor, who recounted the events leading up to her son's untimely death. She said that her son had been leaving work and noticed what he believed to be someone working on a car. Upon approaching, he was tragically mistaken and encountered thieves attempting to steal a catalytic converter. One of the suspects shot Wactor before fleeing the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that the shooting occurred around 3:25 a.m. PT. According to Officer Tony Im, three men were in the process of stealing the car part when Wactor interrupted them, leading to the fatal shooting. Although the LAPD did not officially confirm the victim's identity, sources and family have identified him as Johnny Wactor.
Wactor's portrayal of Brando Corbin on "General Hospital" from 2020 to 2022 earned him a dedicated fanbase. His career also included roles in popular shows like "Criminal Minds" and "Siberia," showcasing his versatility and talent in the entertainment industry.
