Basketball legend LeBron James is set to miss several weeks of pre-season games, and potentially the start of the regular NBA season, after being diagnosed with sciatica on his right side. The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed that the 40-year-old star is dealing with nerve irritation in his glute and has not participated in training camp, according to ESPN.

Coach JJ Redick told reporters that LeBron was “on his own timeline,” noting the team would prioritize the player’s long-term health over short-term appearances. Should recovery take the full estimated four weeks, James will miss the Lakers’ opening game against the Golden State Warriors on October 21.

While fans expressed concern over his absence, LeBron appeared optimistic in recent interviews, hinting that his playing career is not yet over. He acknowledged being “on the other side of the hump” but emphasized he is still motivated to compete. Off the court, he recently announced a partnership with Hennessy VSOP in a clever parody of his iconic 2010 “Decision” interview.

As speculation grows about his eventual retirement, the four-time NBA champion has also expressed interest in acting, saying he would love to explore film roles if the right scripts come his way. For now, Lakers fans will have to wait a little longer to see their superstar back in action, as LeBron James begins yet another comeback chapter in his legendary career.
