Janai Norman is signing off from Good Morning America after nearly four years as a weekend co anchor, confirming her departure in an emotional message shared with viewers.

In a video posted to Instagram on April 3, Norman explained that her time on the program had come to an unexpected end and described the situation as one that was “cut short.” She reflected on her experience at the show, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to work alongside her colleagues and to connect with audiences each week.

She shared that being part of the broadcast had been deeply meaningful to her. Over the years, she said she valued the chance to inform, engage, and contribute to a sense of community among viewers. Norman also expressed disappointment that she did not have the opportunity to\ formally say goodbye on air, noting that she would have welcomed the chance to close this chapter in a more personal way.

Despite the emotional nature of her announcement, Norman also highlighted the positive aspects of her transition. She spoke about her plans to spend more time with her children, explaining that her career at the network had required her to work weekends throughout their lives. With this change, she looks forward to being more present at home and cherishing that time with her family.

In her video caption, she thanked supporters for their kindness and noted that she is “deeply grateful for the love” she has received. She also hinted that more updates may come in the future when the timing is right.

Following her announcement, colleagues from across ABC News and Good Morning America shared messages of encouragement and appreciation. Co anchor Robin Roberts praised Norman as a genuine and valued colleague, while expressing gratitude for their friendship. Whit Johnson reflected on shared memories and wished her success in her next chapter. Gio Benitez and meteorologist Ginger Zee also offered supportive messages, celebrating her contributions and encouraging her future endeavors.

Norman’s journey with the network began in 2011 as an intern. She later took on roles as a correspondent for ABC News and served as co anchor on programs such as World News Now and America This Morning before joining Good Morning America as a weekend co anchor.
