Samuel L. Jackson is suiting up as Nick Fury again — but he doesn’t know why.

The Pulp Fiction star spilled the beans on his next appearance as the former SHIELD director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a brief conversation with The Direct at the premiere of his new film The Beast.

“Next movie... [The] movie after this one,” Jackson said.

When asked what he could tease about that movie, the Unbreakable star responded, “I have no idea. [Marvel] hasn’t told me anything, other than, ‘You’re not gonna be in this movie. You’ll be in the next.’”

Though he didn’t explicitly name either movie, “this movie” almost certainly refers to Marvel Studios’ next film, Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters on Dec. 18. The studio’s “next” film on the calendar, which Jackson says he’ll appear in, from the studio is Avengers: Secret Wars, due to bow on Dec. 17, 2027.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Marvel Studios for comment.

Very little is known about Secret Wars, which will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The film is expected to be the second half of a two-movie arc that begins with Doomsday, in the same vein as 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. As such, it’s safe to assume that the majority of Doomsday‘s cast members will carry over to Secret Wars as well.

Jackson last appeared in the MCU in 2023’s The Marvels. That same year, he headlined a Marvel project for the first time with the critically maligned Disney+ miniseries Secret Invasion.

Jackson has been a key part of the MCU since it kicked off with 2008’s Iron Man, which saw him recruit Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) into the Avengers Initiative in an iconic post-credits scene. Since then, he has appeared in *deep breath* Iron Man 2, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. He also reprised the role in two episodes of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and voiced the character in the non-canon animated shows What If? and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Doomsday (and, presumably, Secret Wars) will see superheroes from three different universes cross paths as Victor Von Doom (Downey) emerges as a new threat. Avengers alums confirmed to return in Doomsday include Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Winston Duke, Hayley Atwell, and Sebastian Stan. Thunderbolts stars Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, David Harbour, and Lewis Pullman are also set to appear, as are Fantastic Four: First Steps actors Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Other MCU actors returning include Simu Liu, Danny Ramirez, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía.
