Whoopi Goldberg is temporarily stepping away from her regular hosting duties on The View as she takes on a new acting opportunity with Netflix.

Goldberg revealed the temporary change during a September 16 episode of Behind the Table, where executive producer Brian Teta explained that the veteran cohost would be away from the daytime programme for several days while filming a new movie.

The project, titled Women Like Us, will feature Goldberg alongside Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox. The production gives Goldberg an opportunity to return to acting while continuing her long running role on The View.

According to Teta, Goldberg will remain part of the programme on Mondays during the filming period, while other familiar faces will step in to fill her seat on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Several former The View cohosts are expected to make temporary appearances during her absence. Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd and Debbie Matenopoulos have all agreed to return to the programme. Joy Behar will also take on the role of moderator during the discussions.

Goldberg's decision to balance her television responsibilities with acting is not unusual in her career. Since joining The View in 2007, she has occasionally taken time away from the programme to pursue other acting opportunities.

In November 2025, she was briefly absent from the show while filming an appearance in the Italian soap opera Un Pasto Al Sole. Her latest break similarly reflects her continued involvement in both television and film.

The actress has also previously spoken about the longevity of her career on The View. Ahead of the programme's 30th season premiere on September 6, she reflected on the fact that she had remained with the show for so many years.

Goldberg's ability to move between television, film and theatre has remained a defining feature of her career. Her latest Netflix project gives her another opportunity to return to scripted entertainment while maintaining her connection to the daytime programme.

For viewers, her temporary absence will bring a familiar group of former hosts back to the programme, creating a short reunion of personalities who have previously occupied the View table.

Goldberg is expected to return to her regular hosting responsibilities once her filming commitments are completed.
