The 27-year-old American athlete was on her way to training last week when she was involved in what she described as a "very scary" head-on collision. Although she escaped without any major physical injuries, Davis-Woodhall has been unable to return to training since the accident.
The reigning world champion is now working with her medical team as she determines whether she will be able to compete at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest later this month.
"Luckily I walked away without any major injuries," Davis-Woodhall wrote on social media.
She added that she is currently focused on recovering and getting healthy, but remains uncertain about whether she will be ready to compete at the championships.
Davis-Woodhall explained that the crash occurred while both vehicles were traveling at approximately 20mph. Despite the relatively low speed, the impact was significant enough to leave both cars written off.
"It's really unfortunate timing; I am at the peak of my training right now," she said.
The timing has made the situation particularly difficult for Davis-Woodhall, who said she had been performing at the highest level of her career before the crash.
"I'm as fast as I've ever been. I'm as strong as I've ever been. So this decision is very difficult for me. I don't know where I am right now," she said.
The World Athletics Ultimate Championships are scheduled to begin in Budapest on Sept. 11. The three-day event will bring together some of the biggest names in athletics, including Olympic champions, world champions, Diamond League winners and leading performers from the season.
Athletes will compete for a top prize of £111,000, adding further significance to the new competition.
Davis-Woodhall enters the event as one of the sport's leading long jumpers. She won Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games before securing the world title at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
For now, her participation in Budapest remains uncertain as she prioritizes her recovery following the crash. She has promised to provide further updates as she works with her doctors and team to determine when it is safe for her to return to competition.
