Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal is reflecting on the advice she once gave Tom Holland and Zendaya, advice the couple famously ignored.
Pascal, 68, told Variety she warned the two stars against dating after they were cast as Peter Parker and MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming. "I say this to all of them, and no one ever listens to me," she admitted with a laugh.
Asked if she thought Holland and Zendaya would ever marry, Pascal replied, "No," before adding warmly, "I think they're pretty happy together."
Her caution wasn't new. Pascal previously revealed in a 2021 interview with The New York Times that she had taken Holland and Zendaya aside separately and told them: "Don't go there. Just don't. Try not to."
She said she gave the same advice to Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, who dated for four years after starring together in The Amazing Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire also dated his on-screen love interest Kirsten Dunst briefly in the early 2000s.
Despite Pascal's warnings, Holland and Zendaya took their relationship all the way. The pair confirmed their marriage in 2026, years after first being linked in July 2021. Holland recently referred to Zendaya as his "wife" during multiple interviews, including a quick-fire round on the U.K. podcast Dish.
Asked who he'd like to vacation in Greece with, Holland answered: "I think probably my wife would be pretty good."
He also joked about their relationship during a July interview with Wired, quipping that Zendaya's character Athena couldn't love Matt Damon's Odysseus "romantically" because "she's married to me."
The couple first met during a screen test for Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016. Their chemistry quickly became a fan favorite, and by 2021, paparazzi photos confirmed their romance. They announced their engagement in 2025 before tying the knot in a private ceremony.
Pascal, who has overseen multiple Spider-Man films as a producer and former Sony executive, acknowledged that her advice often goes unheeded. "It can just complicate things, you know? And they all ignored me," she said. Still, she conceded Holland and Zendaya appear to have defied the odds.
Their next chapter together will play out both on-screen and off, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters July 31.
