Tiffany Haddish is making headlines after her guest hosting appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! drew a response from the Trump administration.
During her opening monologue on the July 8 episode, the Emmy-winning comedian addressed comments made by White House spokesperson Davis Ingle after she joked about President Donald Trump's hands during the previous night's show.
According to Haddish, a reporter asked the White House to respond to the joke, prompting Ingle to say, "Who the hell is Tiffany Haddish?"
Rather than taking offense, Haddish turned the remark into part of her comedy routine.
"Who am I?" she asked the audience. "I'm the one you walk past on your way to coach."
She also reminded viewers that she had appeared as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model before joking about Ingle's own public profile.
"Who is Davis Ingle?" she quipped. "Is that a new character on Little House on the Prairie? You're in the White House, but you're in the wrong house."
Haddish celebrated the exchange, telling the audience she viewed the response as a milestone in her career.
"This is exciting," she said. "The White House is mad at me, y'all! This is the day I finally become Jimmy Kimmel."
She followed up with another joke, wondering whether she would still be paid for the rest of the week if the president somehow removed her from the show.
After the episode aired, Ingle doubled down on his earlier remarks. In a statement, he said he still did not know or care who Haddish was.
Haddish began filling in as guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on July 6 while Kimmel takes a scheduled summer break. The late night host announced his two-month vacation during a June episode, revealing that several celebrities would rotate through the hosting chair in his absence.
Following Haddish's run, the show's guest hosts are expected to include Colman Domingo, Ike Barinholtz, Anthony Anderson and Jelly Roll. Kimmel has also teased an appearance by Rosie O'Donnell, joking that her hosting stint would be a "special treat" for the president.
During his vacation announcement, Kimmel humorously addressed Trump directly, asking him not to "do anything stupid" while he was away.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on ABC on weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET, with a different lineup of celebrity guest hosts scheduled throughout the summer while Kimmel remains on break.
