Lamar Odom is pushing back on claims that he married Khloé Kardashian for fame.
During a recent appearance on the Nothing's Off The Table with Louis Ruggiero podcast, the former NBA star clarified comments made in his Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.
"That never came out of my mouth," he said. "I think that was my kids or my children or whoever they were interviewing at that time. Because, as I look into the camera, I didn't really need more clout."
Odom explained that when he mentioned being drawn to Kardashian's family "lifestyle" in the documentary, he wasn't referring to fame. "I had one of these," he said, pointing to his NBA championship ring. "I'm playing with the best player of my generation. It just fit."
He and Kardashian married in 2009 after a whirlwind romance and finalized their divorce in 2016. Reflecting on that time, Odom said he didn't feel he needed anyone to elevate his profile: "Right before I was getting married, I was in a relationship with an A+ actress... When I met Khloé so many things just fit naturally."
Khloé, however, previously criticized Odom's documentary remarks. On her Khloé in Wonderland podcast in April, she said: "You're sitting on camera saying you married me for fame... That's like some f--ked up s--t. I feel so dumb, I spent hours and time doing this documentary as a favor. I'm not paid one penny."
Despite the controversy, Odom has moved forward. He recently appeared publicly with a new girlfriend, Rachel Bradley, at a Lakers game, signaling a fresh chapter in his personal life.
