Harlem-bred rap star A$AP Rocky has opened up for the first time about the March 2026 shooting incident that directly targeted the Beverly Hills estate he shares with global music icon Rihanna and their three young children. Speaking candidly for the Summer 2026 cover story of VIBE magazine, marking the publication’s historic return to print after a decade-long hiatus, the 37-year-old artist described the profound psychological toll the attack has inflicted on his family’s daily life.
The terrifying incident occurred in the early afternoon of Sunday, March 8, 2026, when an intruder identified as 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz drove to the couple’s luxury property in the Beverly Crest neighborhood. Armed with an AR-15-style rifle, Ortiz fired more than ten rounds, piercing the residence’s front security gate and hitting parts of the main estate. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman later confirmed that both A$AP Rocky and Rihanna, along with their sons RZA and Riot, and their eight-month-old daughter, Rocki, were inside the property sheltering when the gunshots rang out. While no injuries were reported, Ortiz was apprehended at the scene and subsequently hit with 14 felony counts, including attempted murder.
Reflecting on the trauma with VIBE, Rocky did not hold back about how deeply the assault violated his family’s peace. “It was f**ked up,” the rapper stated bluntly. “Somebody attempted at [harming] me and my family.” He noted that while his family thankfully escaped physical harm, the sheer audacity of the attack completely disrupted their sense of security in their own sanctuary. “It took away a lot of peace and happiness of being able to just be free,” Rocky explained. “I don’t want to be robbed of my peace and joy.”
Beyond navigating the security fallout, the wide-ranging interview heavily focused on Rocky’s evolution as a devoted father of three. He expressed a deep commitment to keeping his children grounded despite growing up with astronomical wealth, jokingly admitting he worries they could easily be perceived by the public as “nepo babies.” To combat this, Rocky shared that he deliberately keeps them connected to their extended family, ensuring “they chill with their cousins, the rough cousins, that’s going keep them on their toes.”
The emotional disclosure comes during a major professional peak for the artist, who is currently embarking on a major headlining tour following the release of his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb. Rocky emphasized that this current era is about creative reemergence and protecting what matters most. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings against the shooter, Rocky maintained that his ultimate focus remains squarely on fostering a private, happy, and inherently safe foundation for his household.
