After weeks of silence and intense public scrutiny, Joseph Isaac McCann, the fiancé of late social media influencer Ashly Robinson, has officially broken his silence. McCann’s statement was released on May 5, 2026, the same day Robinson, widely known to her followers as Ashlee Jenae, was laid to rest in a private ceremony in New Jersey.

McCann, who had remained in Zanzibar since Robinson’s death on April 10, used the statement to express his “profound grief” and to push back against the “misleading narratives” that have dominated the headlines. “Ashly was the light of my life, and the woman I intended to build a future with,” the statement read. “To be grieving her loss while facing public condemnation based on incomplete information has been an added layer of devastation.”

The 45-year-old cryptocurrency executive clarified that he has been “fully and voluntarily” cooperating with the Zanzibar Police Force and international authorities. Addressing the reports of the heated argument that led hotel staff to move him to a separate villa on the night of Robinson’s death, McCann described it as a “standard disagreement” that was “blown out of proportion” by resort management. He maintained that he was “shocked and shattered” to learn of her condition hours later.

The statement coincided with a somber funeral service at a Hamilton Township church, where hundreds of friends, family members, and fans gathered to pay their lastrespects. The atmosphere was one of both mourning and a demand for justice. Robinson’s father, Harry Robinson, addressed the congregation, notably mentioning the family’s ongoing struggle to recover her personal belongings, including the engagement ring McCann had given her just days before she was found unresponsive.

While Zanzibar police initially labeled the death a suicide, the Robinson family has commissioned an independent autopsy, the results of which are expected in mid-May. McCann’s legal team emphasized in his statement that they are also awaiting the final official forensic reports, which they believe will “conclusively vindicate” him of any wrongdoing.

As the casket was lowered, the “Justice for Ashlee” hashtag continued to trend globally, reflecting the digital community’s refusal to let the case go cold. For now, with his passport still held by Tanzanian authorities, McCann remains in Zanzibar, though his statement marks a significant shift from the silence that has fueled weeks of speculation. For the Robinson family, the burial provides a place of rest, but as her mother, Yolanda Endres, stated outside the service, “The funeral is over, but the search for the truth has only just begun.”
