Lamar Odom has spoken out to clarify his perspective following comments made by his ex-wife Khloé Kardashian about a critical moment during his 2015 medical crisis.
The former NBA star, now 46, reflected on both the challenges and turning points in his life while promoting his Netflix documentary, _Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom_, during an appearance on _Today with Jenna & Sheinelle_ on April 6. His remarks addressed a scene described in the documentary involving his father, Joe Odom, and decisions surrounding life support after his near fatal overdose.
Kardashian, who was married to Odom from 2009 until their divorce was finalized in 2016, played a key role in his care at the time. Although the couple had separated in 2013, she remained legally married to him and acted as his power of attorney during his hospitalization. In the documentary, she recalled arriving at the hospital and finding Joe Odom present, believing he may have thought he had authority over medical decisions.
She described a tense exchange in which she claimed Joe suggested that life support should not be continued. According to her account, she intervened, asserting her legal role as Odom’s wife and decision maker. She also alleged that Joe later requested money, shoes, and a hotel stay before leaving the hospital and not returning.
Odom has now challenged that version of events. Speaking during his television interview, he explained that he was unconscious at the time and could not personally verify what happened. However, he expressed strong doubt about the claim, saying it did not reflect the character of his father.
He described Joe Odom as his biggest supporter and said he could not imagine him making such a statement. Odom suggested there may have been a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of what occurred.
During the interview, he wore a pendant honoring his parents, underscoring the importance of family in his life. His father passed away in 2021, and Odom has previously spoken about their relationship, acknowledging that while they had disagreements, there was always mutual love.
