Tiger Woods was found with opioid pills in his pocket and showed signs of impairment following a car crash in Florida, according to a police affidavit.

The 50-year-old golfer was involved in a crash on March 27 in Jupiter Island after his SUV struck a pickup truck towing a trailer and overturned onto its side. Authorities say Woods told deputies he had been looking at his phone while adjusting the radio and did not notice the vehicle ahead had slowed down.

According to investigators, deputies observed several indicators of impairment at the scene. The affidavit noted that Woods had “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and “extremely dilated” pupils. Officers also reported that he was “sweating profusely” despite sitting in an air-conditioned vehicle.

During a search, police found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket. When asked about medication, Woods told officers, “I take a few,” adding that he had taken prescription drugs earlier that morning. Authorities said his movements were “lethargic and slow,” although he remained alert and talkative during questioning. During a field sobriety exercise, deputies observed him “limping and stumbling to the right,” with Woods explaining he had undergone multiple surgeries, including seven on his back and more than 20 on his leg.

A breathalyser test showed no alcohol in his system, but Woods refused to take a urine test. Based on their observations, a deputy concluded that Woods’ “normal faculties were impaired” and that he was “unable to safely operate the motor vehicle.”

The truck driver and a bystander helped Woods exit the vehicle through the passenger side. No injuries were reported, though the truck sustained damage.

Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. He was later released on bail the same day.

The incident marks another chapter in Woods’ history of car accidents, including a serious 2021 crash that left him with significant leg injuries. His case remains ongoing, with further legal proceedings expected.
