Speaking to reporters in the press room after the ceremony on March 15, the 39 year old actor said his career has always been guided by hard work and patience. He recalled advice from his father, who encouraged him to stay focused on putting in the effort rather than expecting opportunities to come easily.
Jordan said he has always tried to concentrate on doing the work and trusting that the results would eventually follow. He explained that in the entertainment industry, awards such as the Oscars represent a major achievement that many performers strive for. At the same time, he believes that success should not come at the expense of others.
The actor said he views his career as a personal journey and believes that every artist has their own path to follow. According to him, no one can take away the opportunities or blessings meant for someone else. He added that he tries to stay focused on his goals while encouraging fellow actors and artists to remain authentic in their craft.
Jordan also spoke about the importance of dreaming big and remaining honest about one's ambitions. He said he believes in putting positive energy into the world and allowing that mindset to guide his work and life.
At this year's ceremony, Jordan won the Best Actor award ahead of a strong group of nominees. The category included Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, and Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme.
The film Sinners was widely recognized during the ceremony. It received a record 16 nominations and won four awards overall, including Best Actor. Meanwhile, One Battle After Another earned six awards during the night, including the top prize for Best Picture.
Jordan's win followed strong momentum during the awards season. Earlier in March, he also took home a major acting prize at the Actor Awards. Before that, Chalamet had been viewed as an early favorite after winning at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics' Choice Awards.
During his acceptance speech, Jordan expressed gratitude to his family and to director Ryan Coogler, who also won Best Original Screenplay for Sinners. He also thanked his co-stars Wunmi Mosaku and Hailee Steinfeld.
Looking ahead, Jordan's next major project will be a remake of the classic film The Thomas Crown Affair, which he is set to both direct and star in.
