Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s 12-year-old daughter, North West, is making it clear she isn’t bothered by online criticism over her latest style choice: a dermal piercing on her middle finger. The piercing, first noticed in September while the pair were in Rome, has drawn attention on social media, prompting North to respond in her own playful way.
On Dec. 9, North shared a TikTok video on the joint account she maintains with her mother. Lip-syncing a soundbite from Chrisean Rock’s “Baddies,” she mouthed, “Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together,” with a caption reading, “This is for everyone that’s mad over a finger piercing.” The clip quickly drew attention, with fans weighing in on the debate about the young star’s choice.
North’s mother, Kim Kardashian, has consistently defended her daughter’s freedom to express herself. After the piercing first surfaced online, Kim responded to a TikTok user who wrote, “North West getting a finger piercing is breaking my heart just me?” by replying, “It’s okay,” and a hand-heart emoji. The reality star also addressed another social media critic questioning North’s earlier experimentation with fake septum piercings, fake tattoos, and colored contacts, calling the criticism “such a non-issue.”
Kardashian has emphasized that supporting her daughter’s creative expression is part of helping her build confidence. On an Oct. 15 episode of _Call Her Daddy_, she explained, “I’m like, ‘Babe, if you want blue hair, it is what it is.’ It makes her so happy. I would never take that creative away from her.” She further highlighted
North’s maturity, saying, “She’ll be like, 'Mom, I saw this and I don’t really care if someone says they don’t like my blue hair, or my this or that,’ and she’s really confident.”
Fans of North quickly came to her defense, pointing out that her choices as a pre-teen should be respected. Comments under The Shade Room’s repost of her TikTok ranged from humor to support, with people urging people to focus on their own children.
With her recent video and her mother’s support, North is showing that she isn’t letting the haters get to her.
