The newly released Netflix docuseries, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, has ignited fresh controversy by leveling explosive and unproven allegations against media mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs regarding the 1997 murder of his protégé, Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace. The four-part series, produced by Combs’ long-time adversary 50 Cent, premiered on December 2, 2025 and includes interviews with former associates who make startling claims about Combs’ conduct surrounding Biggie’s death.
One of the most immediate and shocking claims highlighted in the documentary alleges that Diddy charged Biggie’s estate for the cost of the rapper’s own funeral. This accusation suggests a significant betrayal of trust and financial exploitation following the tragedy.
The documentary also revisits unproven claims regarding the circumstances of the shooting itself. Kirk Burrowes, a former co-founder of Bad Boy Records, alleges in the series that Biggie was initially scheduled to leave Los Angeles for a press tour in London immediately following the Soul Train Music Awards on March 7, 1997. However, Burrowes claims that Diddy canceled the London trip, insisting that Biggie remain in LA to attend an after-party on March 8. It was while leaving this party in the early hours of March 9 that Biggie was killed in a drive-by shooting. Burrowes suggests Diddy’s insistence on staying was driven by a desire to “do a party on enemy turf,” referring to the ongoing East Coast-West Coast hip-hop feud. Combs has previously addressed this topic, acknowledging in a 2017 interview with Wendy Williams that he felt “some sort of responsibility” for Biggie’s death, claiming Biggie talked him into letting him stay in LA instead of going to London.
While the documentary has included a wide array of shocking claims, the allegation that Diddy hired a male escort on the anniversary of Biggie’s death to commemorate him, as suggested in some reports, was not detailed in the available initial summaries or official synopses of the docuseries.
Combs’ spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, has aggressively dismissed the entire series, calling it a “shameful hit piece” built around a “one-sided narrative led by a publicly admitted adversary,” referring to 50 Cent. Engelmayer stated that Diddy’s legal team would not comment on individual claims but noted that many of the allegations are from individuals with “longstanding personal grievances, financial motives, or credibility issues.”
