R&B artist Sammie (born Sammie Lee Bush Jr.) was arrested in Georgia and is now facing multiple serious charges including battery, under family violence and cruelty to children. Local law enforcement reports indicate he was booked at the Henry County Jail at 11:55 p.m. and released shortly after on bond.
According to arrest records, the 38-year-old singer was charged with battery or domestic violence and third-degree cruelty to children specifically for allegedly allowing or forcing a child under 18 to witness an act of violence. The bond for his release was set at approximately $1,050. At this time, authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the victim or the alleged incident beyond the general nature of the charges.
Sammie rose to fame in 1999 with the hit single “I Like It,” and his debut album From the Bottom to the Top helped establish him as a promising young R&B artist. Over the years, he released multiple albums, toured and built a dedicated fanbase. His music career now takes a backseat as legal issues become the focus.
In a brief social-media statement following his release, Sammie addressed the arrest by saying he was cooperating with authorities and anticipating his day in court. He emphasized the importance of his family and his commitment to his children, though he did not provide specific commentary on the alleged actions. His attorney has yet to release a detailed public statement.
The battery and cruelty to children charges carry significant consequences. Third-degree cruelty to children in Georgia is classified as a felony when it involves a child witnessing violence in the home and convictions can result in prison time, hefty fines, and long-term probation. The battery charge, depending on its classification, could also lead to severe legal repercussions, especially given the involvement of a minor.
At this point, Sammie’s representatives are reportedly reviewing the evidence and preparing for pre-trial proceedings. The next steps will include an arraignment, the possibility of plea discussions and a look at Sammie’s previously clean legal record as part of the court’s consideration.
