Media personality Wendy Williams was reportedly stunned to discover that her monthly rent for her New York residence is $25,000, information she says she only learned after reading it in a New York Magazine article. According to sources cited by Page Six, Williams had previously believed her rent was $18,000 per month, but saw the higher figure in a recent magazine spread.

Williams, who is currently under a guardianship with court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrissey, is said to be increasingly anxious about her finances. She has been prohibited from managing her own income and reportedly receives a modest weekly allowance. Sources say that the revelation of the higher rent added to her frustration, leaving her feeling “drained” and uncertain about how her funds are being handled.

The magazine’s cover story also dove into her ongoing efforts to rid herself of the guardianship, and included a breakdown of some of her financial obligations. Among those obligations is rent for her unit in the Coterie, a luxury senior-living residence she has referred to as a “luxury dump.” In the article, she is quoted expressing outrage at the discrepancy, saying she was told she was paying $18,000 and only realized it was $25,000 when she read the article.

Friends and insiders say Williams feels increasingly sidelined in decisions about her property, her social life, and her spending. Her legal team has been locked in disputes over guardianship and she is expected to testify in a lawsuit her guardian brought against A&E and Lifetime over a documentary series, Where Is Wendy Williams?

At present, it is unclear whether Williams or her representatives have formally challenged the reported rent figure or taken legal steps to address the financial discrepancy. But the episode further shows the tensions she faces under her guardianship, that is, limited control over her affairs, heightened scrutiny over her finances and the difficult role the media now plays as the keeper of her financial records.
