Zoë Kravitz has shared a wild story about how a visit to Taylor Swift's home during the Los Angeles wildfires took an unexpected turn — involving her mother's pet snake and significant damage to Taylor's bathroom.
Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers on August 12, the 36-year-old actress said that Taylor Swift had invited her and her mother Lisa Bonet to stay in her Beverly Hills homes when the fires forced them to evacuate. "We ended up having to stay there for maybe about two weeks. Taylor has a very beautiful house from the '30s — it's just something you want to preserve and take care of,'' Kravitz said.
The visit included Bonet's snake, Orpheus. On the last day of their stay, Kravitz wanted to leave the place looking spotless. She remembered telling her mom, "I really want to be a good house guest ... I don't want her to even know we were here." However, it did not go as planned when her mom called her from upstairs sounding a lit bit tense: "I'm in a little bit of a pickle, can you come upstairs?"
Kravitz found her mother crouched in the corner of the bathroom. Bonet explained, "I was washing my face and I had Orpheus and I just put her down for a second ... and she found this little hole in the corner." The snake had begun disappearing into the wall beside a built-in banquette with drawers.
"I get down on the ground, I take the drawers out ... as this is happening, the snake is getting further and further away," Kravitz said. "I was panicking so much." Bonet kept hold of the tail, but the snake's strength made it a challenge.
With no other option left, Kravitz called the house manager, who arrived with a crowbar. "We're ripping up the tile, we're scratching the walls ... completely destroyed Taylor's bathroom," she admitted. Her thought at the time: "Either we destroy her bathroom, or I have to tell her that there's a snake somewhere in her house."
Kravitz offered to pay for repairs and even asked the manager not to inform Swift until it was fixed. But when she eventually called her friend, Swift already knew. "She was like, 'Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in my house and destroyed my bathroom?'" Kravitz recalled.
Despite the mishap, the two remain close. Their friendship spans over a decade.
