Dr. Umar Johnson has finally spoken out regarding the swirling misconduct allegations against media mogul Tyler Perry. In a recent appearance on The Art of Dialogue, the outspoken psychologist and activist didn’t mince words, defending Perry’s legacy while calling out what he views as a dangerous trend of tearing down influential Black men without sufficient evidence.

“Let me be clear,” Dr. Umar began, “Tyler Perry has never claimed to be perfect, but to suggest he is the leader of some secret culture of abuse with no solid proof? That’s dangerous and irresponsible.” His comments come in the wake of a $260 million lawsuit filed against Perry, alleging harassment and misconduct, claims that have sparked widespread media speculation and online debates.

Dr. Umar questioned the timing of the allegations, suggesting ulterior motives may be at play. “This man has built one of the most powerful Black-owned studios in America. He’s changing the narrative for Black storytelling. And now, just as his influence reaches new heights, these accusations surface?” he asked, his tone skeptical. “That’s not coincidence. That’s coordination.”

He went on to stress the importance of separating proven fact from rumor. “We are not saying don’t investigate,” he clarified. “We are saying don’t convict a man in the court of public opinion without a shred of verified evidence.”

In defending Perry, Dr. Umar also pointed to his decades-long record of service, jobs creation, and philanthropic work. “We’re talking about a man who has employed thousands, given millions, and created platforms where none existed. Are we to believe that a 20-year legacy of community uplift means nothing the moment an allegation appears?”

His message wasn’t just about defending Perry, it was about urging the Black community to think critically. “We can’t let cancel culture replace common sense. If our icons fall, let it be because of facts—not because of fear, headlines, or gossip.”
