In a candid moment that caught fans off guard, music legends Nelly and Ashanti confessed they once harbored deep resentment for each other following their 2013 breakup. The revelation came in a new trailer for their upcoming reality series, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, where both artists sat down for a raw, unscripted confessional. “I hated her,” Nelly, 50, said plainly, reflecting on the aftermath of their long and rocky relationship. Without missing a beat, Ashanti, 44, replied, “I hated him.” Her words were laced with laughter, but the emotion beneath them was unmistakable.

The pair’s relationship began in 2003, sparking during the height of both their careers. For the next decade, they navigated a high-profile on-and-off romance that ended with a definitive split in 2013. The emotional fallout, as it turns out, ran deeper than the public ever knew. “I didn’t think we’d ever get back together,” Ashanti admitted in the trailer.

But time, maturity, and what Ashanti calls “real growth” eventually brought them back together. After years apart, they reconnected in 2023. “She got me, y’all,” Nelly said with a grin. Ashanti quickly fired back, “He wanted to get got.”

Their reunion wasn’t just symbolic—it was life-changing. The couple married in secret in December 2023 and welcomed their son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, in July 2024. In a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti shared, “He’s such an incredibly happy baby... When he sees daddy, the vibe definitely changes.”

Now, for the first time, the couple is inviting the public into their world. Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, premiering June 26 on Peacock, will document their daily lives as newlyweds and parents, while reflecting on a love story two decades in the making.

The eight-episode series promises a deeper dive into their evolution—not just as partners, but as individuals who’ve overcome bitterness, heartbreak, and the weight of public scrutiny. “With our lives moving so fast... it’s not perfect,” Nelly says in a voiceover. “But we can work our way through it.”

As executive producers, the couple is steering the show’s direction, aiming to present an honest portrayal of love’s resilience. And as Ashanti poignantly concludes in the final seconds of the trailer, “’Til death do us part.” Nelly echoes, “We belong together.”
