In a heartfelt ceremony at the 2025 BET Awards on June 9th, Jamie Foxx was celebrated with the prestigious Ultimate Icon Award, marking a pinnacle in his illustrious career. The event, held in Los Angeles, witnessed a touching tribute to Foxx’s resilience and contributions to entertainment and beyond.

Stevie Wonder, a longtime friend and collaborator, delivered a poignant introduction, reminiscing about their journey together. "Jamie, you know, just because you played a blind man doesn't mean we're besties," Wonder quipped, setting a warm tone for the evening. A medley of performances followed, showcasing Foxx's diverse talents. From Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Ludacris covering his hit "Unpredictable" to Jennifer Hudson's soulful rendition of Ray Charles' classics, the stage was alive with homage to Foxx's musical prowess.

Returning to the stage, Wonder emphasized Foxx's impact beyond music: "I knew from the moment I heard you sing that you had so much more. I admire and celebrate your talent," he expressed earnestly.

Foxx, visibly moved, took the spotlight to express gratitude and reflect on his recent health battle. Overcoming a near-fatal stroke in April 2023, he shared, "When I saw the 'in memoriam' segment tonight, I thought, 'that could have been me.'" He affirmed his commitment to seizing his second chance, acknowledging the overwhelming support from his community.

Reflecting on his journey, Foxx highlighted the importance of his 2024 Netflix special, dedicated to the Black community. "Black people were the ones that said, 'Man, we got you.' You can't go through something like that and not testify," he remarked, underscoring the profound impact of his recovery on personal and cultural levels. Acknowledging his team and family, Foxx credited their unwavering support during his health crisis. He particularly praised his daughter, Corinne, for her pivotal role in his recovery, emphasizing her strength and dedication.

Touching on broader societal themes, Foxx emphasized the significance of receiving the Ultimate Icon Award from the Black community. "The Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us," he asserted, highlighting the award's cultural significance. In a touching moment, Foxx also expressed love for his younger daughter, Anelise, recalling her uplifting presence during his darkest hours. "She knew what her daddy needed," he shared, illustrating the profound impact of family support during his health struggles.

The BET Ultimate Icon Award recognizes Foxx's decades-long contributions to music, entertainment, advocacy, and community impact. Alongside Mariah Carey, Kirk Franklin, and Snoop Dogg, Foxx stands as a symbol of resilience and achievement in the entertainment industry.
