Currently starring in Broadway's revival of Shakespeare's "Othello" alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Washington has returned to his theatrical roots. This production marks the first Broadway staging of "Othello" in over 40 years, following the 1982 revival featuring James Earl Jones.

The production has faced physical challenges for Washington, who recently revealed to The New York Times that he "bit [his] tongue almost half-off a few months ago," affecting his speech and forcing him to slow down - particularly challenging for Shakespearean dialogue.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Kenny Leon, "Othello" opened on March 23 at Broadway's Barrymore Theatre for a limited 15-week engagement. Notable producers include Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kandi Burruss and her husband Todd Tucker.

Washington's enthusiasm for this production is palpable. "It's the most excited I've been this century," he told CBS. "Seriously. I haven't been this excited about anything I've done as I am about this."
