Karen Huger, the “Real Housewives of Potomac” has been sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended, following her conviction on DUI and related charges that stem from a March 2024 car crash in Potomac, Maryland.

According to the Washington Post, this is Karen Huger’s forth alcohol related traffic incident. She has previously had a similar incident thrice between 2006 and 2011. Jordan Kramer, the lead prosecutor released a statement, insisting on the need for jail time.

“The fact that Ms. Huger has repeatedly been given the benefit of another chance on three separate occasions demonstrates that she has not learned anything from prior arrests. In fact, it appears as if she has been emboldened,” Jordan wrote. “ The state is concerned that the program that Ms. Huger did choose to enroll in equates itself to a luxury resort experience.”

The recent incident leading to Huger’s arrest occurred on March 19, 2024 when she crashed her Maserati into a pole near Oaklyn Drive. During her trial, camera footage and witness testimony highlighted that Huger was severely intoxicated. Police footage revealed her slurring speech, cursing at officers and declining a breathalyzer and field sobriety test. Huger has been charged with driving under the influence, negligent driving, failure to control speed and failure to notify authorities of an address charge. Huger is expected to begin serving her sentence immediately.

At the time of her verdict, Huger’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment with the outcome, stating, “Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case. We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time.”

Earlier this year, the reality TV star took steps toward recovery by entering a private treatment facility in Florida. She later explained that her goal was to “get to the bottom” of mixing antidepressants with alcohol. The decision led to a delay in her sentencing and forced her to miss the RHOP season 9 reunion—though she did appear in two pre- recorded video messages.
